The Augsburg Fairview Academy Social Work Department is available to students who need support. The Social Work Department utilizes a non-judgmental, harm-reduction, holistic, strengths-based approach. This approach helps students understand and use their abilities, or strengths, to overcome difficulties in their lives. If a student or family needs someone to talk to about anything, a Social Worker is there to listen, offer emotional support, and connect students to resources.
Students can meet with a Social Worker individually, participate in groups, join us for events like our Resource Fairs or field trips to community agencies, or to obtain clothes, food, or toiletries.
A Social Worker can also talk to students about:
• Housing Options
• Mental Health Support
• Academic Issues
• Pregnancy and Parenting
• Sexual Orientation
• Gender Identity
• Substance Abuse
• Domestic Violence
• Sexual Assault
• Suicidal Thoughts or Actions
Social Work Groups are a place for students to feel like they belong. The groups explore different topics such as relationships, goals, and identity. These groups help students feel supported by staff and their peers and provides structured social interaction. The topics explored are directed by the students with facilitation provided by staff.
