Special Education Behavior Interventionist Paraprofessional

Augsburg Fairview Academy seeks to hire a Behavior Specialist Paraprofessional in Special Education for the 2017-2018 school year.

Essential Qualifications:
● Experience implementing student behavior interventions
● Knowledge of student behaviors and management skills relating to individual and small groups of students
● Excellent interpersonal skills with both adults and students
● Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and extreme patience
● Ability and willingness to collaborate with teachers and other colleagues
● Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills
● Understanding and belief in Augsburg Fairview Academy’s unique mission and vision

Desirable Qualifications:
● Minnesota Special Education teaching license (or ability to obtain such) or
● Educational Assistant certification (or ability to obtain such)
● Keen expertise in pedagogical best practices
● Experience collaborating with students, families, and diverse communities
● Track record of success serving youth with significant developmental risk factors
● Training and experience with Circle of Courage, including RAP and LSCI
● Work experience in an urban, charter high school

Essential Job Functions:
● Cultivating strong, positive relationships with students
● Assist students to eliminate or replace disruptive, harmful or negative behaviors using a PBIS model
● Work in a classroom setting to observe challenging or disruptive behaviors and use data to develop positive behavior interventions
● Assisting students in a classroom setting
● Assisting students in a small group setting
● Working with students, teachers, and student support team to address challenges to students’ behavior
● Managing small group activities and behaviors effectively
● Collaborating with teachers to provide positive behavior interventions for students based on the Academy’s principles of authoritative instruction
● Recording and reporting student behavioral data to supervisors
● Participating in professional development activities

Job Specifications:
● 40 hours per week minimum
● 5 days per week, Monday – Friday
● Salary/wages based on qualifications and the AFA salary schedule
