Lead Teacher

Augsburg Fairview Academy seeks a Lead Teacher (1.0 FTE) for the 2021-2022 school year.

Reports to: Executive Director, School Board
AFA is seeking a hard-working, passionate, goal-oriented leader to join our team as the full-time Lead Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.

Essential Qualifications:
-Valid Minnesota teaching license (or ability to obtain such)
-3-5 years of experience teaching in an urban high school
-Ability to effectively collect, interpret, and use data to drive programs and policies
-Experience collaborating with students, families, and the diverse communities our school serves
-Demonstrated excellence using restorative practices to address student behavior and discipline
-Track record of success serving youth with significant developmental risk factors
-Demonstrated leadership ability
-Excellent interpersonal skills with both adults and students
-Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills
-Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and extreme patience
-Understanding of and belief in Augsburg Fairview Academy’s unique mission and vision
Desired Qualifications:
-Master’s degree in school administration or related field
-Experience as lead teacher or principal of an urban high school
-Proficiency in all dimensions of Effective Urban School Leadership (Haberman)
-Valid Minnesota administrator’s license
-Experience with conflict resolution
-Training and experience with Circle of Courage, Response Ability Pathways, Love & Logic, or Nurtured Heart Approach
-Several years’ experience in a charter school
-Knowledge of post-secondary transition plans
-Keen expertise in pedagogical best practices
-Experience collaborating with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff
Essential Job Functions:
-Collaborates with the Executive Director to coordinate school-wide systems, planning, financing, and daily operations 
-Guides academic staff in implementing the mission and vision of the school 
-Oversees professional development and teacher observations 
-Provides an active, positive presence in halls and classrooms
-Works with students, parents, teachers, and student support team to address challenges to students’ academic progress
-Works with student recruiter to develop effective marketing messages and strategies, carry out recruiting activities throughout the year, and smooth new students’ entry into the Academy 
-Provides mentoring and support to staff 
-Oversees communication with students regarding graduation readiness
-Provides positive behavior interventions for students based on the Academy’s principles of authoritative instruction
Instruction:
-Academic support systems: Active learning and work experience program supervision 
-Academic support systems: Attendance monitoring, documentation, Check and Connect program supervision 
-Direction of Special Programs, Response to Intervention, ELL services, tutoring, and Indian Education Program,
-Online Learning Systems Site Coordination
-Teacher Coaching – classroom management, curriculum and instruction supervision
-School-wide assessment coordinator – NWEA MAP Reading and Math  
-Grading (interim & final; progress reporting, parent meetings)Instructional system day-to-day operations
-Parent/family engagement (e.g., feedback, communications, events)Partnerships for learning (e.g., tutoring, internships, PSEO, healthcare training, outreach, service learning, LSS parenting classes, etc.)
-Partnerships for learning: Promise Fellow site supervisor and program integration
-School events (e.g., graduation, dances, prom)
-Special Education – IEP team district representative and class scheduling 
-Student attendance (i.e., assessment & intervention for continuous improvement)
-Student course & graduation planning; credit assessment in tandem with School Counselor
-Scheduling: annual district calendar, master schedule, room schedule and student schedules
-Other duties as assigned 
Student Support:
-Handle phone/voice mail/email communications relating to academic/support
-Manage front desk, provide reception for visitors, receive and sort mail
-Monitor, confirm, and update student/family contact information on regular schedules
-Retention strategy (ie., continuous improvement in retention of enrolled students)
-School-wide response to student crises & behavior
-School-wide restorative practices coordinator: RAP, LSCI, etc.
-First Response Team: coordination, training and management
-Other duties as assigned 
Student Services:
-Manage student requests: transcripts, ID documents, first aid/personal items; bus tokens
-Manage school lockers and locks
-Process photos and info for student ID documents
-Other duties as assigned

-Ability to apply instructional strategies on differentiation
-Strong organizational skills

-Knowledge of collaboration practices, team teaching practices, and special education
-Ability to collect data and make course placement recommendations for students
-Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with school administrators, staff, students, and families
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
-Required to talk, hear, walk, climb, crouch, crawl, balance, stoop, kneel, reach for objects, use repetitive motion, stand, push, pull, lift and use hands to grasp and feel
-Continually required to communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, support staff, students, parents, guardians, and the community
-Continually required to operate a walkie talkie, computer, and software/applications such as Google Drive, MS Office Products
-Requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
-Work has standard vision requirements
-Work requires operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities
-Work regularly requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens or airborne viruses and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment work frequently requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to the risk of electrical shock
-Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic)
Position Logistics:
-40 hours per week minimum
-Monday – Friday from 7:45am-4:00pm
-Compensation based on the Augsburg Fairview Academy FY22 salary schedule
