Admission

Parents/Guardians who wish to enroll a child are invited to complete the Augsburg Fairview Academy Admission Inquiry Form.

The Admission Inquiry Form serves as AFA’s Application for Admission and collects only the information necessary to complete the admissions/lottery process and apply lawful preferences. Consistent with Minnesota law, AFA gives enrollment preference to Minnesota resident applicants over nonresident applicants. Nonresident applicants must apply annually for each school year.

Open enrollment begins the second Monday of January each year and remains open through the annual deadline. A general lottery will be conducted on the second Thursday of March (or the next school day if AFA is closed) for each grade level, with admissions forms received exceeding the number of openings for the Fall.

Preference for enrollment is given to a sibling of an enrolled student and to a foster child of that pupil’s parents. Secondary preference for enrollment is given to enrolling children of the school’s staff.  A staff member eligible for an enrollment preference for their child, including a foster child, must be an individual employed at the school whose employment is stipulated in advance to total at least 480 hours in a school calendar year.

After applying all required and permitted preferences, Minnesota resident applicants will be offered enrollment before nonresident applicants.

A completed Admissions Inquiry Form must be received by February 1, 2026, to be included in the lottery.

Acceptance

If your child is accepted, AFA will notify you by phone and mail.  Following notification of acceptance, you will be asked to complete the Augsburg Fairview Academy Enrollment Application with Forms and Releases. The enrollment packet includes the required Minnesota Language Survey.

If your child is not accepted, you will be notified by mail of your student’s status on the wait list for their grade. Wait list status is determined sequentially by lottery number. As openings become available during the school year, applicants will be accepted by their placement on the wait list.

Wait lists are valid only for the school year in which the lottery is held and do not carry over from year to year. Families must submit a new Admissions Inquiry Form during the next open enrollment period.

Placement

Upon receipt of completed registration information and prior school records, the school will place your child in the appropriate grade level. Prior school records help determine appropriate grade/credit placement, but they do not change admission status once an offer is made and accepted.

Transfer Students

To support scheduling and credit review, AFA encourages transfer requests before the first 10 school days of each quarter when possible; however, students may enroll after a quarter begins as space allows.

Grade level placement for High School transfer students will be based on credit status as determined by the student’s transcript. Records must be received and evaluated prior to determining a start date.

Special Education and Section 504

If your child receives special education and has an IEP, or if your student has a 504 plan, a staff member will contact you to arrange a meeting to determine the appropriate services and placement for your child based on that child’s IEP or 504 Plan.

Augsburg Fairview Academy does not limit or restrict enrollment based on a student’s physical or mental ability or aptitude, disability, or receipt of services pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504).
