Job Title: Student and School Operations Support Specialist

Position Summary:
The Student and School Operations Support Specialist is a key support role at Augsburg Fairview Academy. This position helps maintain a safe, trauma-informed, predictable, and student-centered school environment by assisting with behavior support, building-wide systems, student relationship-building, and daily operations.
The SSOSS works directly with the Executive Team and staff to ensure AFA remains a place where students feel safe, seen, supported, and successful. This is a highly visible role requiring excellent communication, consistency, professionalism, and a strong commitment to AFA’s mission of dismantling racism through education, restorative practice, and culturally responsive support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Student Support & Relationship Building
- Build positive, culturally responsive, trauma-informed relationships with students.
- Support students experiencing dysregulation through calm, grounded, non-punitive strategies.
- Assist with escorting, redirection, and emotional regulation support using AFA’s restorative, Developmental Designs, and trauma-informed practices.
- Serve as a consistent, reliable adult presence throughout the school day.
- Support re-entry conversations after conflicts, suspensions, or behavioral incidents at the direction of the Executive Team.
2. Behavior Response & Trauma-Informed Interventions
- Respond to behavior calls and provide support using AFA’s trauma-informed and Developmental Designs practices.
- Assist the Executive Team and Behavior Team with low- and mid-level behavior interventions, documentation, and follow-up.
- Support data collection and incident logging in alignment with AFA protocols.
- Uphold professional boundaries and maintain student confidentiality (FERPA compliance).
3. Systems Fidelity & Schoolwide Operations
- Support implementation of AFA’s operational systems, including:
- Yondr phone pouch system
- Hallway and transition monitoring
- Arrival and dismissal procedures
- Bathroom and common area supervision
- Lunchroom routines
- Transportation and van coordination
- Food service support
- Ensure consistency and predictability in applying schoolwide expectations.
- Provide coverage for classrooms, supervision zones, and operational gaps as assigned.
4. Culture, Climate & Community Engagement
- Promote a positive, inclusive, student-centered school culture that aligns with AFA’s mission, values, and equity focus.
- Assist with monthly school events, including set-up, coordination, community engagement, and logistics.
- Model restorative practices, Developmental Designs language, and culturally sustaining interactions.
- Support staff and students during transitions, high-traffic times, and schoolwide activities.
5. Safety, Supervision & Crisis Response
- Maintain high visibility across the building to ensure safety and monitoring in all student spaces.
- Assist with crisis response, safety drills, room clearing, and student supervision during emergencies under the direction of the Executive Team.
- Report safety concerns immediately to the Executive Team.
- Uphold mandatory reporting requirements and adhere to all AFA safety protocols.
6. Administrative & Operational Support
- Provide clerical and administrative assistance for the Executive Team, including communication support, documentation, student follow-up, and organizational tasks.
- Support staff when team members are absent, unavailable, or during peak demand times.
- Assist with phone calls, copies, passes, student check-ins, and other office supports.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and timely communication at all times.
Qualifications:
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm, flexible, and grounded in high-pressure situations
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, restorative practices, and trauma-informed support
- Ability to move throughout the building frequently and maintain active, visible presence
- Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability
Preferred
- Prior experience in a school setting or youth-serving environment
- Coursework or degree in education, youth work, social work, behavior support, or related field
- Experience with trauma-responsive strategies, restorative practices, or Developmental Designs
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday, during school hours, with occasional evening or weekend hours for special events.
Compensation:
- Hourly wage is competitive and based on experience. Benefits included.
